Before we discuss study tips for civil engineering PE, let's first know about the Exam. Passing out the PE (PE stands for Professional Engineer) will make you legally eligible to practice and carry on with civil. With a professional civil engineering license, you will remain legally accountable for whatever civil work you do.

The Civil Engineering PE includes 5 major sections such as Construction, Structural, Geotechnical, Transportation, and Environmental and Water Resources. To study each section, students need to read text books and practice mock tests.

Study tips for engineering Exam also include studying early. Students must not wait for the last months prior to the examination, but rather should start revising from at least a fewer months before the PE. Civil Engineering Exam has 5 major sections to cover. Hence, you need to study each section thoroughly so as to get complete grip on the topic. One of the most important study tips to get success in Exam is to study efficiently. Don't waste too much time studying all topics. Choose the topic that you like the most and read and remember that in detail.

Another vital study tip is to get hold of as many text books and references as possible. Apart from studying the college text books, it is recommended to buy good PE Exam books. Read every chapter attentively and logically so as to understand the topic well. Start answering probable questions that might come in the examination.
Some of the good reference books for Civil PE Exam are Engineering Reference Manual for PE Exam, 11th edition, Engineering Solved Problems, 5th edition and Civil PE Sample Examination by Michael R. Lindeburg. Books by Bruce A. Wolle, and R. Wane Schneiter are also worth mentioning.

Try to practice what you read for the PE Exam. Arrange for mock tests, as the tests will help you realise your strengths and weaknesses. Do not spend too much time (not more than 5 minutes) on one question. Remember, you have to answer all questions within a set time. So it's better to answer the easy ones and then move back to the difficult questions.
In preparing for the Engineering PE Exam, students can become members of public libraries to borrow reference materials. The reference books contain lots of solved questions and answers to difficult problems.
